Woodlandpark Co-op School is inviting you and your Family to its first Zero Waste event!
Kids are welcome to have a playdate in the Woodlandpark Co-op Playground area during the event.
When: January 18th 2020, 10am-12:00pm
Where: Woodlandpark Co-op, Church Sanctuary
"It all started with a son, a dad, and a bag of batteries...
Do you get confused on what can and can't be recycled? Do you have things around your house that you think still might be useful to others in the community? Are you tired of driving all of the town trying to get rid of hard-to-recycle items? If the answer to any of those questions is 'yes,' then our next meeting is for you! We will be joined by Ryan Metzger who started Owen’s List with his 7-year-old son Owen after facing many of these same questions in his home.
Ryan and Owen’s project began after they researched and discovered together how to recycle and reuse common items like batteries, Styrofoam, paint, eyeglasses, electronics, and so much more. They started collecting these items from their neighbors and before too long over 4,500 people in Seattle had signed up to be a part of their project and they had done over 1,200 pickups!
With interest in their project so high, Ryan and a few others began researching the state of the recycling and waste industry to see what more could be done. They learned how changes beginning in China were putting some of our recycling processes in doubt. Not content to sit on the sidelines, they eventually expanded their mission to a new service called Ridwell that is helping thousands of families from around Seattle live more sustainably and do good by wasting less.
