From El Paso to New Zealand, white supremacy zealots are wreaking terror, violence and death across the world. How has white supremacy been used historically to oppress racial groups and what is our region doing today to combat potential violence from extremists? Our speakers include University of Washington Professor Christopher Sebastian Parker – an award-winning author of books on race, ethnicity and politics – and King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg, whose office works to reduce hate crimes and gun violence.

Garth Stein, author of the beloved Seattle-set novel The Art of Racing in the Rain about the relationship between a man and his dog, comes to Civic Cocktail on Thursday, Sept. 5. Narrated by canine Enzo, the book spent 156 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has touched millions of hearts across the world. The movie of the story, starring Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried and Kevin Costner as the voice of Enzo, premiers on August 9.
