Description
What is the range of climate impacts we can expect & the factors that hinder & motivate change? How can we can work together to prepare?
Event Details
Dr. Heidi A. Roop will highlight the range of climate impacts we can expect across the region and the factors that hinder and motivate changes in political will and social acceptance of climate change. She will discuss how we can work together to prepare our communities for a warming world.
From smoky skies to shifting shorelines, climate change will touch the many facets of our lives. Building on the recently released Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Global Warming of 1.5ºC Special Report and the 4th National Climate Assessment, this talk will explore the range of observed and projected climate impacts in the Northwest. In addition to highlighting the range of climate impacts we expect across the region, we will discuss the factors that hinder and motivate changes in political will and social acceptance of climate change and how we can work together to prepare our communities for a warming world.
Dr. Heidi A. Roop is the Lead Scientist for Science Communication at the University of Washington Climate Impacts Group and an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the UW Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. Heidi combines climate science research and the science of science communication to connect climate information to decision-makers and communities across the Pacific Northwest, U.S., and abroad. Heidi has spent over a decade studying ice, mud and mountains. She now focuses primarily on ‘moving mountains’ to achieve climate resilience.
