Who better to play the music of Fats Domino and Little Richard than David Vest and his band?
They don't make them as real as David Vest anymore. Long revered as one of the great boogie-woogie piano players, he's the son of an Alabama sharecropper. He grew up in genuine juke joints and has amazing stories to tell. Along the way, he played with many blues greats, from Big Joe Turner to Jimmy T99 Nelson. A five-time winner of the Maple Blues Award for piano player of the year, he's the living embodiment of that classic Fats Domino line: "Clap your hands and stomp your feet, you got to move when you hear that beat."
Vest is a five-time winner of Canada's Maple Blues Award for Piano Player of the Year and a Blues Artist of the Year nominee. Vest has also earned two record of the year nominations at the Maple Blues Awards and a four-star review from Downbeat.
Since being asked to open for Roy Orbison in 1962, Vest has performed onstage with an astonishing range of artists, including Big Joe Turner, Bill Black's Combo, Jerry Woodard, Floyd Dixon, Miss Lavelle White, Carey Bell, Red Foley, Johnny Dyer, James Harman, Tammy Wynette, Don Helms, Curtis Salgado, Lloyd Jones, Marcia Ball and the Paul deLay Band, to name a few.
A prolific songwriter, Vest's tunes have been recorded by artists ranging from Tammy Wynette to Downchild.
His band features Tom Bowler (guitar), Damian Graham (drums) , Ryan Tandy (bass) and Brooke Maxwell (sax). WOW!!!
