ABOUT

First published in 1961, The Phantom Tollbooth has delighted readers of all ages for generations with its sympathetic protagonist and exceptionally-clever wordplay. The book is the story of a bored child namedMilo and his voyage of discovery through lands as diverse as the Mountains of Ignorance andDictionopolis. Marking the 50th-anniversary in 2011, Juster spoke with NPR about the timelessness ofthis work: “Children are still the same as they've always been. They still get bored and confused, and stillstruggle to figure out the important questions of life.”
In seven-plus seasons, The Bushwick Book Club Seattle has hosted over 300 individual performerswriting and debuting original music inspired by literature.
Featured performers for this event includeLevi Fuller, Vanessa Grasing, Michelle Khazak, Lucien La Motte, Sean Morse & AmandaWinterhalter, Michael Owcharuk, and Wes Weddell.

“New and innovative work that surprises anddelights,” is how one local author describes the Bushwick experience, while another librarian calls it “abrilliant way to expand anyone’s appreciation of words.”
On June 15 these performers will lead Milo and his watchdog, Tock, on a special musical journey through the Kingdom of Wisdom!
